Introduction
We want to ensure all staff across the organization understand our culture and what is expected of them.
This document is meant to be a guideline as we want as far as possible to allow staff to make their own judgements.
We encourage staff to think for themselves and use their own initiative and it is our goal to provide an environment where this can happen.
To achieve this Spa Clubs prefers not to make hard and fast rules but to highlight what our cultural values are as a team and what we strive towards.
Staff are encourage to interpret these cultural values and use them to guide their decision making when working for Spa Clubs.
Why?
If staff are unsure of what is expected of them they are at risk of acting in a manner that is not in line with our culture.
All organizations are different in small ways and have different cultures.
It is Spa Clubs desire to create a culture that is inclusive and supportive to all staff and provides the maximum opportunities to all.
This requires a cohesive team environment where everyone is pulling in the same direction and sharing the load.
To this end, it is important that all staff understand these expectations.
You are not expected to like all decisions
But you are expected to respect them and the people that made them
There can be many and varied reasons why you may not like decisions that are made by Spa Clubs or members of staff.
Decisions are made by people. People are fallible and make mistakes.
Decisions are made in the best interest of the Business (see explanation below) as the business looks after all of us.
Decisions are made in line with the culture of Spa Clubs, which may not be totally aligned with your own.
Constant change
We understand that not everything can be placed in a document and that there will never bee a comprehensive list.
Times moves forward and this creates changes in society which involves changes to policies and procedures. So we this is a constantly evolving area.

Policies
Mobile phones
Mobile phones must be switched off and left within bags while on shift.
Managers with permission, requiring their mobile phones for work purposes, may use their phones as required.
Social Media
All use of personal social media is prohibited while at work.
Employees are prohibited from mentioning any work related persons or issues on social media at all times.
Privileges
Please Note:
1. As privileges, they may be removed or restricted by the business at any time at the total discretion of the business.
2. An Individual's access to privileges may be restricted or removed at anytime at the discretion of the business.
Reasonable usage of Company facilities and services.
Employees may use company facilities and services within in reasonable limits.
Use of clubs for personal workouts.
Employees are encouraged to train at the facilities.
When using a facility while not on shift, employees must refrain from engaging with staff currently working.
Staff on shift must refrain from engaging with staff using the facility in their own time.
Reasons: it is inefficient. When staff are talking to off duty staff they are not being productive.
Expectations
Doing what is best for the business
As an employee you are expected to act in the best interests of the business at all times. This is the fundamental reason for hiring people.
Working at work
As an employee you are expected to spend your entire time at work, producing outcomes for the business. I.e. you are expected to be doing something productive for the business at all times. It is expected that employees with find productive things to do.
The business employs staff to generate income for the business through producing work. This is achieved in many ways, ie cleaning, selling memberships, making bad debt phone calls.
Initiative
All employees are use their own initiative at work to ensure that they remain productive at all times. i.e. in the absence or specific instructions employees are expected to determine what work is required based on what is best for the the business at any given time.
Cultural values
Everybody cleans:
It is the responsibility of all staff to ensure that that club is clean inside and out. In many companies with designated cleaner staff will wall past rubbish because "it is not their job". As a staff member of Spa Clubs, it is your job.
Guidelines not Rules
There is only one rule: Do not harm. All the rest are guidelines.
This is designed to allow you to use your discretion with all issues. We are not part of the Nanny state we are not here to tell people how to enjoy thewir facility. We are here to ensure that the facility is enjoyed by all in a safe and respectful manner.
The Club belongs to the members.
This is a philosophical point of view which staff need to remind themselves. We do not make rules
The Club belongs to all members.
Not all members will inherently understand this and the right of all members to enjoy the facility.
The Business comes first
All decisions are made in the best interest of the business. All staff rely on the business to provide for them, if the business is not profitable, it does not exist and no-one has a job. This means that some decisions will be made which may not be in your personal best interest but are seen to be in the best interest of Business.
Initiative is Gold:
We encourage every staff member to think about the business and how take decisions which they feel are in the best interest of all. Mistakes will be made, the business acknowledges this and accepts that sometime better decisions can be made. We do not want this to stop you making decisions and taking action.
Default position is yes.
This is a follow-on from the note on initiative. If you are presented with a request for which you are unsure, our default position is YES.
Conditions:
You should consider the request in several ways:
1. Do no harm. No harm should come to anyone
2. In the best interest of the business. What are the financial impacts of this decision?
If you have considered the request and you can see no significant issues then we like to say yes.
Dont use NO.
We are conditioned from a very young age to react badly to the word 'NO'. So please dont use this word.
There are many ways to communicate your inability to grant their request at this time which do not include the word 'NO'
Introduce members to other members
The most important relationships in the facility are those between members. These need to be created and encouraged.
Members who form friendships with other members will stay longer. Many members also join for this reason.
So, it is important to relate to members well it is more important to introduce members.
Many people under estimate the importance of this and put most of their energy into their staff-members relationships.
We want you to put your energy into facilitating member to member communication.
